Levitra is a medicine to be taken orally to treat erectile dysfunction. Sexual stimulation produces and releases nitric oxide from the nerves endings of the cavernous bodies of the penis and thus activating enzyme guanylate cyclase. Guanylate cyclase in its turn deals with production of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). The cGMP initiates widening and relaxation of the blood vessels, which carry blood to the penis. Levitra blocks phosphodiesterase-5 enzyme from destroying cGMP and thus the blood flow to the penis is being supported.
The suggested dose of Levitra amounts to 10 mg per day to be taken an hour prior to sexual activity. At the absence of side effects the dosage can be increased up to 20 mg. In case of side effects reduce the dose to 5 mg daily. Do not take more than one pill of Levitra through a day.
